13:13 18/03/2009
MOSCOW, March 18 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov signed on Wednesday an agreement on visa-free travel with Argentina.
The agreement, signed at a ceremony in Moscow attended by the Argentine ambassador, will come into force after ratification by the two countries' parliaments.
Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana signed this agreement last week at a ceremony in Buenos Aires.
Argentina has become the fifth state in Latin America to scrap visa requirements for Russian citizens, following Venezuela, Cuba, Peru, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
The Colombian Foreign Ministry announced in early March it was planning to unilaterally introduce a visa-free agreement for Russia.
Last year some 6,000 Russians visited Argentina. About 3,000 Argentineans visit Russia annually.
