CHISINAU, April 10 (RIA Novosti) - Moldova was calm overnight with no incidents reported following Tuesday's mass anti-communist riots, a source in the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

"The city was under intensive guard of police, there were no attempts of looting or hooliganism," the source said.

The Moldovan Interior Ministry has warned the riot instigators against attempting to stage new protest actions and promised to use all available means to maintain order. Earlier the riot organizers said they planned to "destroy the government building" on Friday or on Sunday.

Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii said: "Police will use all the necessary means to protect the constitutionality of the Moldovan Republic, including the weapons."

The Kommersant business daily said Russia on Wednesday delivered a major shipment of tear gas grenades on an Il-76 aircraft. "In an hour the boxes of "cheryomukha" gas grenades and other special equipment were unloaded from the aircraft under increased security," the newspaper quoted a high-ranking source in Chisinau airport as saying.

Protests against the ruling Communist Party's victory in Sunday's elections turned violent on Tuesday, with an estimated 10,000 rioters seizing control of the presidential office and parliament building. Some 170 police officers and more than 100 civilians were injured in the clashes.

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has accused Romania of inciting the violence in the capital, and on Wednesday the Moldovan government approved the introduction of a visa regime with Romania, and also expelled the country's ambassador.

The parliamentary speaker said that damage to the parliament building in Moldova following Tuesday's riots has been estimated at $40 million.

Moldova's top election authorities plan to submit on Friday the results of the recent parliamentary elections for approval by the Constitutional Court.
