Russian companies are ready to participate in building four nuclear power plant units in Turkey, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Saturday after talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

SOCHI, May 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian companies are ready to participate in building four nuclear power plant units in Turkey, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Saturday after talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Russia is taking part in a tender to build Turkey's first NPP.

"We are speaking about possible participation of our companies in building four large units," Putin said.

Putin also said Russia and Turkey agreed to immediately start talks on prolonging a gas supply contract expiring in 2011 and hold talks on the second branch of the Blue Stream gas pipeline.

Russia supplied Turkey with 23.8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2008, including 10 billion cu m through the Blue Stream pipeline linking Russia to Turkey under the Caspian Sea. This year the figure is expected to rise to 25.5 billion cu m.

Erdogan told journalists after the talks held in the southern Russian resort of Sochi that Putin will visit Turkey soon.
