MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Six people are now known to have died in Honduras when a powerful earthquake occurred in the Caribbean Sea, rescue workers said on Friday.
Four of the dead were children aged from 3 to 15.
Twenty-five people were also injured. The earthquake, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, occurred on Thursday at 2:24 am [08:24 GMT], 64 kilometers off the Honduras-owned island of Roatan.
"For the type of earthquake it was, the damage is minor," Honduran President Manuel Zelaya said during an HRN radio broadcast.
On Thursday, Honduran authorities announced plans to close the Caribbean port of Puerto Cortes, which handles 80% of the country's shipping traffic.
"Equipment has been damaged," Honduran Port Authority Roberto Babum said in a televised statement.
