More than 70 observers will monitor voting during Sunday's parliamentary elections in South Ossetia, the former Georgian republic's foreign minister said on Saturday.

TSKHINVAL, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - More than 70 observers will monitor voting during Sunday's parliamentary elections in South Ossetia, the former Georgian republic's foreign minister said on Saturday.

"At the present time there are 72 observers, ten are from abroad," Murat Dzhioyev said adding that "some of them are en route, but they will be here today."

The elections are first in the former Georgian republic since Russia recognized its independence, following a five-day war with Georgia who launched an attack to try and regain control over the region in August.

During voting 88 polling stations will be open. Four parties are taking part in the elections: the Communist Party, the People's Party, Unity and the Fatherland Party.

Dzhioyev said the observers were from Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Abkhazia, Nagorny-Karabakh and Russia.
