MOSCOW, June 5 (RIA Novosti) - A woman from the northern South African province of Limpopo, who may have been the world's oldest person, died in her sleep at the age of 135, South African media reported on Friday.

Koko Moloko Temo was alleged to have been born on July 4, 1874, but her age has never been confirmed. She is believed to have died of shock several days after burying one of her daughters, aged 70, the Sowetan daily said.

"One of the proudest moments we remember about her was when she voted in the April 22 general elections. This makes her a democrat at heart and one of the defenders of our freedom," the South African Press Association (SAPA) quoted the provincial premier, Cassel Mathale, as saying.

Temo is survived by her 80-year-old daughter Evelyn Mothemane, 29 grandchildren and countless great grandchildren.

According to Guinness World Records, the official title of the world's oldest living person is held by 115-year-old Gertrude Baines from California, U.S.
