KABUL, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - At least three people were killed and another 39, most of them civilians, wounded in an explosion in east Afghanistan early on Tuesday, a local police chief said.
The blast occurred in Asadabad, the capital of the Kunar province, after a vehicle in an ISAF troop convoy crashed into a building when its tire burst, Gen. Abdul Jalal Jalal said.
Witnesses said the explosion occurred when a foreign soldier threw a grenade into a crowd. The International Security Assistance Force has denied the reports, saying that the grenade was thrown by a militant.
The ISAF said three soldiers were among those wounded in the blast. According to the Tolo TV channel, two people died and another 52 were injured during the incident. Most of the victims are in a critical state.
In the past 24 hours, over 80 Taliban militants have died in clashes with coalition troops in Afghanistan, local security agencies said. Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said one soldier died and another 15 were injured in the past two days.
