A three-hour action near Bala Murghab valley, in Baghdis province, was assisted by Italian military with A129 "Mangusta" attack helicopters, the Afghan National Army and ISAF forces said.

During the operation, two helicopters received minor damage as militants opened fire but the operation was continued. At least 25 Taliban gunmen were killed and more than 10 injured.

Earlier ISAF said a senior militant Mullah Mustafa, who is linked with terrorist attacks against foreign forces, was killed during the operation. However, the U.S. military has not confirmed the report.
