TOKYO, July 17 (RIA Novosti) - Ten mountain climbers have died after they were caught in strong winds and rain on northern Japanese mountain ranges, the NHK TV channel reported on Friday.
Eight people died on Thursday while climbing the 2,141-meter Tomuraushi Mountain on Japan's main northern island of Hokkaido, said police spokesman Masafumi Yamasaki. Another 10 climbers from the group were rescued.
A body of a man, who had apparently been climbing by himself, was also found on the mountain.
Police on Thursday received an SOS from the group saying it had been trapped on the mountain by harsh weather conditions.
One woman from another group of 6 people also died while climbing the 2,052- meter Biei Mountain. The other five were rescued.
