ROME, July 17 (RIA Novosti) - Pope Benedict XVI has successfully undergone an operation on his injured right wrist, local media said on Friday.
The pontiff, 82, slipped and fell while on vacation in Aosta, in northern Italy.
Despite that, he celebrated Mass and had breakfast before going to the Umberto Parini hospital in Aosta.
He was hospitalized earlier on Friday and tests showed he broke his wrist, ANSA news agency reported.
The operation was performed with a local anaesthetic in the hospital in Aosta.
"Everything went well," the head of the Val d'Aosta region, Augusto Rollandin, said.
Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said the pontiff was feeling well. He could be discharged from hospital later on Friday.
