BEIJING, July 19 (RIA Novosti) - A Chinese military jet crashed during a training flight in northeast China, with the fate of two pilots unknown, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

A fighter-bomber of the Chinese Air Force crashed on Sunday while flying over the Taonan tactical training base in Jilin province, Xinhua said.

The plane was intended to be involved in a joint anti-terrorism exercise with Russia, Peace Mission 2009, scheduled to begin on July 23 in the area of the Taonan military base, the agency said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known and an investigation into the incident had been opened, Xinhua said.
