MOSCOW, August 10 (RIA Novosti) - A typhoon and a tropical storm have killed at least 34 people and caused massive damage across the Pacific region, Asian media reported on Monday.
Almost a million people fled coastal areas of mainland China on Sunday after Typhoon Morakot struck. A four-year-old child was reported dead. More than 1,800 houses collapsed when their villages were flooded in the Zhejiang province
Chinese authorities have estimated damage at around $400 million.
Twelve people had earlier died in Taiwan as Morakot swept across the island, causing the worst flooding in half a century. At least 52 people were missing on Sunday. The typhoon also claimed 11 lives in the Philippines.
At least 12 people died in western Japan when it was hot by tropical storm Etau. Another 47,000 people had to flee their homes.
