WASHINGTON, August 13 (RIA Novosti) - China has donated $16 million to relief efforts in Taiwan in the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot, which killed 103 and injured 45 on the island, Taiwanese officials have said.
The U.S. government has sent $250,000 and Japan just over $100,000.
Another 61 people are still missing after the most powerful typhoon to hit the island in half a century.
The damage to Taiwan's agriculture caused by Morakot has been estimated at some $267 million, according to China's Xinhua news agency.
In China, where Morakot has claimed at least six lives, damage from the typhoon has been estimated at around $1.33 billion. The Chinese authorities have allocated $77.2 million to help those affected by Morakot.
