Heavy monsoon rain in Nepal caused mudslides and flooding across the country, claiming at least 68 lives, Xinhua news agency

MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Heavy monsoon rain in Nepal caused mudslides and flooding across the country, claiming at least 68 lives, Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.

Around 23 people are reported to be missing, 24 others injured with another 4,000 people forced to flee their homes as rains battered the mountainous country.

Ten people died in the Siraha District, some 150 km southeast of the capital Kathmandu. The injured are being treated in local hospitals.

Rescuers are trying to find the missing. The government, who has set up temporary shelters and is providing food for the displaced, has yet to issue details on the damage and losses from the monsoon that usually hits Nepal from June to September.
