BUENOS AIRES, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - President Manuel Zelaya ousted from Honduras in June has returned to his country, TeleSur, pan-Latin American television channel, reported on Monday.
The president's aide said on television that Zelaya was in the UN mission in the capital Tegucigalpa.
The website of Honduras's El Heraldor newspaper said Roberto Micheletti, parliamentary speaker turned interim Honduran leader, had fled the country in the morning.
Zelaya was bundled out of the country on June 28 by the military, acting on instructions from the supreme court and parliament, for his efforts to seek an unconstitutional second presidential term. Zelaya was flown to Costa Rica. The de facto Honduran leadership has not been recognized internationally.
The U.S. has suspended an aid program to help Honduras fight poverty over the interim government's refusal to accept a plan proposed by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, under which Zelaya would return to his post, while Micheletti would return to his pre-coup position.
