MOSCOW, October 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russia calls on Israel and Iran to normalize relations and believes this is possible, the Russian foreign minister said Friday.
"I would think that Israel and Iran should strive for restoring relations. There is nothing impossible in that," Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, the Russia Today TV channel and the Voice of Russia radio station.
"No one needs war," he added.
Earlier on Friday, Israeli President Shimon Peres downplayed the likelihood of a strike against Iran over its controversial nuclear program, saying that U.S.-led diplomacy should be pursued.
