MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - At least 136 people were killed and more than 500 wounded in one of this year's deadliest attacks in Iraq on Sunday, the Vesti TV channel reported.

One suicide car bombing targeting the Justice Ministry in the Iraqi capital ripped through downtown Baghdad in the morning, followed, in a few minutes, by another one aimed at a Baghdad government building near the Tigris River.

Passers-by accounted for most part of the toll. Employees of nearby government buildings were also affected. Iraqi authorities have announced three-day mourning.

Increased terrorist activity of Iraqi militants is linked to the forthcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for early 2010. In August 2009, attacks on the finance and foreign ministries took over 100 lives.

Terrorist attacks occur in Iraq rather often. The deadliest one ever took place in 2007, when suicide bombings in northern Iraq killed 237 people and injured over 300.
