BUENOS-AIRES, November 27 (RIA Novosti) - At least 16 people were killed and nine injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in the south of Peru, the country's RPP radio reported on Friday.
The accident occurred on late Thursday on a highway in the Arequipa Region after a trailer-truck swerved into on-coming lane and collided with a Hyundai truck carrying 23 farmers, a local police source said.
The source also said that the death toll "might rise" as some of the injured are in "serious condition."
He added that the trailer truck's driver might have fallen asleep at the wheel.
