Another quake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale was registered some 60 km (37 miles) to the south of Haiti's Port-au-Prince late on Friday night, no information on casualties has been provided as of yet, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday, was followed by many aftershocks and nearly leveled Port-au-Prince.

Aramick Louis, Haiti's secretary of state for public safety, announced earlier that over 140,000 people were killed in Tuesday's earthquake.

The UN asked on Friday night for $562 million from the global community to help Haiti's quake victims.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told reporters on Friday that up to 50% of buildings in Haiti's capital and areas around have been damaged or destroyed.

"Preliminary estimates from our UN emergency teams show widespread damage to infrastructure in Port-au-Prince and other affected areas, with as many as 50% of buildings in the worst-hit areas damaged or destroyed," the UN chief said.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said the latest confirmed death toll among the 12,000 UN local personnel and expatriate employees in Haiti was 37, with 330 still missing.
