U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit quake-hit Haiti on Saturday together with the head of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

"I have decided after consulting with President [Barack] Obama and others in our government that I will be traveling to Haiti tomorrow with USAID Administrator Dr. Raj Shah," Clinton told a press briefing on Friday.

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday, was followed by many aftershocks and nearly leveled Port-au-Prince. The most recent quake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale was registered some 60 km (37 miles) to the south of Port-au-Prince late on Friday night.

"We will be meeting with President Preval and other members of the Haitian Government along with the members of the U.S. Government team on the ground, including our civilian and military leaders," Clinton added.

The United Nations announced that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will also travel to Haiti on Sunday.

On Friday Ki-moon told reporters that up to 50% of buildings in Haiti's capital and areas around have been damaged or destroyed.

He said a high proportion of the city's 3 million people were without access to food, water, shelter and electricity.

The UN asked on Friday night for $562 million from the global community to help Haiti's quake victims.

Aramick Louis, Haiti's secretary of state for public safety, announced that over 140,000 people were killed and some 250,000 injured after Tuesday's earthquake.
