The death toll in the Rio de Janeiro flood caused by heavy rains has reached 95, city's mayor Eduardo Paes has said.
The torrential rains started in Rio de Janeiro on Monday afternoon and continued for some 15 hours.
The city suburbs occupied by the poor have suffered significantly from the flood. Paes said more than 1,400 people were left homeless as a result. Four people reportedly remain unaccounted for.
Flood also caused much damage in the historic center of the city. Banks and shops have been closed in Rio on Tuesday. On Wednesday, lessons will be cancelled in the city's schools.
