Iran has overcome the technological obstacles in creating nuclear arms, leaving the development of nuclear arms in the country to just a question of political choice, the head of the Israeli military intelligence research department said on Wednesday.
"In the past, developing a nuclear bomb [in Iran] depended on overcoming technological obstacles, but now it only depends on their [Iranians'] decision," the press service of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) quoted Brigadier-General Yossi Beyditz as saying.
Beyditz also confirmed information that Syria had recently delivered long-range rockets to the Lebanese Hezbollah movement and referred to this shipment as "just the tip of the iceberg."
"Today Hezbollah has in its arsenal thousands of rockets of different models, including long-range and solid-fuel missiles...Such missiles allow Hezbollah to place its missile launchers deep inside Lebanese territories, implementing significantly longer range launches in comparison with what we have seen in the past," Beyditz said.
During the Second Lebanon war in July-August 2006, Hezbollah militants attacked Israeli cities with some 4,000 missiles. The militants' resistance was so strong that Israel considered it had lost the military campaign.
The brigadier-colonel criticized the international community for not forcing Syria to make a choice between improving ties with the West and regional states, returning to its influential role inside Lebanon, and strengthening cooperation with Iran, Hezbollah, and "other Palestinian terrorist organizations."
