Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said on Monday he hoped Moscow and Kiev would continue constructive dialogue.
"This is our seventh meeting; this is a good number, and it is important that it becomes a basis for regular future visits to Kiev," he told his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.
Medvedev arrived on a two-day visit to Kiev earlier on Monday and is due to sign a number of bilateral agreements.
Yanukovych said Russian-Ukrainian trade in 2010 would exceed $35 billion.
"In the first four months of the year trade has grown 50% and we are confidently moving toward the figure of over $35 billion by the end of the year," he said.
He said the governments of the two countries had "enough power to remove administrative barriers" to trade.
This is Medvedev's second visit to Ukraine since Yanukovych was elected Ukrainian president in February. Yanukovych has visited Russia twice, fulfilling promises made during his election campaign to improve relations with the country.
The Russian president said on Sunday he hoped to sign a number of bilateral agreements concerning "energy cooperation, as well as cooperation in humanitarian exchanges, in interregional and international problems."
