Thai medics on Thursday found six bodies in a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thai media reported as the city remained tense after a military crackdown on protesters.

The Wat Pathum Wanaram temple was an official neutral zone on Wednesday during an operation conducted by the country's military against opposition protestors.

The MCOT TV channel reported that "no one knows how and when these bodies got into the temple." The bodies are believed to be those of civilians or snipers.

The six bodies discovered in the temple would appear however to bring the death toll from Wednesday's violence to 14. Over 100 people were also injured.

Protestors had demanded the dissolution of parliament and early elections. Some 40 people were killed during seven days of clashes in the Thai capital.

Seven leaders from the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Wednesday said they would surrender to avoid further bloodshed. Four of the leaders then gave themselves up.
