A Russian woman died in a Turkish hospital who suffered severe injuries in a bus crash in the southwest of the country earlier in the week, bringing the death toll from the accident to 16, a Russian consulate general said.
On early Tuesday morning, a bus with 39 Russian tourists and two Turks en route from the resort of Alanya to the town of Pamukkale veered off the road and plunged 15 meters into the Aksu River killing 15 people, including 13 Russians. The Turkish driver and tour guide also perished in the accident.
On early Thursday, a Russian Emergencies Ministry plane evacuated 21 of the injured Russian tourists from hospitals in Turkey to Moscow for treatment.
"Another person remains in [Turkish] hospital in critical condition. Two more are ready to be checked out," Mirdzhalol Khusanov said.
The diplomat also said that 10-year-old Yevgeny Korobov, whose parents were killed in the accident, would be taken to Russia on Friday, adding that the repatriation of bodies also began on Friday.
