Russia will on Monday give Poland the flight data recorders of the Polish presidential plane that crashed in western Russia in April, an Interstate Aviation Committee spokeswoman said on Friday.

"The copies of the flight records will be given to Poland on May 31," Marina Shnitova said.

Committee head Tatyana Andonina said the black boxes themselves would have to remain with the Interstate Aviation Committee until the end of the investigation.

The Soviet-made Tu-154 aircraft crashed on April 10 near the western Russian town of Smolensk while attempting to land in thick fog. All 96 people on board, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife, and an official Polish delegation of senior officials, were killed in the crash.

Russian and Polish investigators and experts are jointly investigating the causes of the crash. Polish military prosecutors are also conducting their own separate investigation.
