NATO-Ukraine cooperation will continue within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the Alliance's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.

NATO-Ukraine cooperation will continue within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the Alliance's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.

"Our cooperation with Ukraine will continue within the existing framework and then it's for Ukraine to decide how this relationship and partnership should develop in the coming years," Rasmussen told a news conference in Brussels.

"The Bucharest decision still stands. We have no intention to change that decision... our door remains open," he added.

His statement comes after the Ukrainian parliament passed last week in the first reading a bill that stipulates Ukraine's status of non-alignment with international blocs.

Shortly after the bill was passed, President Viktor Yanukovych's made a televised address to the nation, in which he reiterated the country's non-bloc policy.

Yanukovych, who entered office in February, has made it clear he intends to drop his predecessor's plans to seek NATO membership. It has been suggested that this is another move to appease Russia, which strictly opposed Ukraine's attempts. However, Yanukovych has indicated that he will try to maintain good ties with both Moscow and the West.
