The United Nations Security Council members condemned recent interethnic violence in Kyrgyzstan, urged to put an end to bloodshed and provide humanitarian aid to all civilians hurt in bloody clashes.

Mexico's Claude Heller, the Security Council's rotating president, said after the council's talks on the situation in Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday, that the UN Security Council member states called on the conflicting parties to resolve the situation peacefully.

At least 138 people were killed and over 1,750 injured in clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek groups that swept through the country's second-largest city of Osh and another southern city of Jalal-Abad starting on Friday and continuing throughout Saturday and Sunday.

The border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan was closed following the riots, during which cars were set on fire, and stores, markets and residential buildings smashed and looted.

Kyrgyz and Uzbek ethnic leaders in Kyrgyzstan agreed late on Sunday to begin reconciliation talks.
