The newly elected Polish president Bronislaw Komorowski is likely to be inaugurated on August 6, Sejm Speaker and Acting President Grzegorz Schetyna said.

Komorowski, a pro-EU, moderate member of the governing Civic Platform party, won the presidential runoff in early July with more than 53 percent of the vote, around 6 percent ahead of his contender Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who leads the conservative Law and Justice party.

Komorowski narrowly took first place with 41.54% in the first round of presidential elections in June.

In line with Polish law, the inauguration of a new president must take place within six days after the Polish Supreme Court approves the election results.

Krzysztof Michalowski, the court's spokesman, told reporters on Wednesday that the court would convene and announce its decision on August 3.

Early elections were called in Poland following the death of former President Lech Kaczynski, along with a delegation of Polish officials, in a plane crash in western Russia in April.

Some experts say that Russian-Polish relations, which deteriorated during Lech Kaczynski's presidency over a range of historical disputes, are likely to improve under Komorowski.

Following Komorowski's victory, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated him and pledged to continue "regular dialogue to expand all-embracing cooperation between Russia and Poland."
