Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of the NATO-led international forces in Afghanistan, will start teaching at the Yale University this autumn, CNN reported.
In late June, U.S. President Barack Obama replaced McChrystal with Central Command chief David Petraeus as the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan.
McChrystal, who served in the military for 34 years, was relieved of his duty after a controversial publication in the Rolling Stone magazine in which he strongly criticized top White House officials.
He will now lecture a graduate-level seminar in leadership to students in the international relations master's program.
"The course will examine how dramatic changes in globalization have increased the complexity of modern leadership," CNN quoted the university spokeswoman, Dorie Baker, as saying in a statement.
"I am extremely excited to be teaching at Yale and I look forward to sharing my experiences and insights as a career military officer," the statement quotes McChrystal as saying.
Many U.S. officials start teaching after quitting top posts, including former U.S. secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, who has been lecturing political science in Stanford since March 2009.
