The Chinese Foreign Ministry has refuted a U.S. government report on the Chinese military, saying it was exaggerated, Xinhua news agency reported.
The United States published an annual report on China's military forces on Monday. The report claimed, in particular, that China's military system is not transparent enough and the budget intended for military spending was understated.
"We firmly refute this report," Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu said.
"China unswervingly sticks to a path of peaceful development and pursues a national defense policy which is defensive in nature," she said.
She also urged the United States to refrain from publishing such reports in the future and instead begin working towards improving relations between the militaries of the two countries.
