The Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday the U.S. Department of State's report, which labels Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, was biased, Iranian media reported.

"While the US' track record shows that it has been the greatest sponsor of terrorism for the past three decades, it continues to cover up its measures by blaming and leveling false accusations against other countries," the English-language Press TV quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast as saying.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran pays particular attention to collaborating with the international community in fighting against terrorism but Western countries and the US continue to adopt a double standard on terrorism," he said.

The spokesman said the Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), a religious leftist organization that advocates the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is active in the West, and this may serve as an example.

He also accused "some Western special services" of supporting the Sunni Jundallah armed group and the Kurdish nationalist militant group PJAK, both "acting against the Islamic Republic."

Mehmanparast was also quoted as saying that U.S. accusations of terrorism "could have unfavorable impacts on the international trust and mutual confidence which is a basic element in the world stability and security," the semi-official Fars News Agency said.

The U.S. Department of State published its annual Country Reports on Terrorism on August 5, labeling Iran as "the most active state sponsor of terrorism." The report says the country's financial, material, and logistic support "for terrorist and militant groups throughout the Middle East and Central Asia had a direct impact on international efforts to promote peace."
