Polish archaeologists will conduct excavations near the western Russian city of Smolensk where a Polish presidential plane crashed in April, a spokesman for Warsaw prosecutor's office said.
The Polish experts would search for body fragments and clues that may help in establishing the cause of the deadly crash, which killed 96 people, including then president Lech Kaczynski, the first lady and other top state officials.
"Polish archaeologists will work in Smolensk from October 13 to 27. The results of their work will be known in late November or early December," the spokesman said.
One of Polish military prosecutors will accompany the group to oversee the excavation works.
A group of some 10-12 Russian archaeologists and three geodesists will assist the Polish experts in their probe.
The worn-out Tu-154 with a top-level Polish delegation crashed on April 10 after hitting top of trees in thick fog. The president and other senior Polish officials were on their way to a commemoration ceremony of the 1940 Katyn massacre of more than 20,000 Poles by Soviet forces near Smolensk.
Polish experts probing the plane crash said in late September they were "dissatisfied" with the documents supplied by Russia.
Russian and Polish investigators and experts jointly probe the causes of the crash, while Polish military prosecutors also conduct a separate investigation.
