The U.S. Central Command and Uzbekistan's Defense Ministry have signed a security cooperation program, the U.S. Embassy in the Central Asian country said on Wednesday.
The document was signed during a visit to Uzbekistan by the head of U.S. Central Command, General James Mattis.
"The program outlines a series of mutually agreed-upon engagements and training opportunities for fiscal year 2011," the embassy said.
Mattis met with Uzbek officials to discuss regional security and the situation in Afghanistan.
The United States used an airbase in Uzbekistan as part of operations in Afghanistan from 2001 until 2005 but has since relied exclusively on the Manas facility near Bishkek, the capital of neighboring Kyrgyzstan.
