Russia's drug-control agency has decided to increase the number of its representatives in Kabul, the head of Russia's Federal Drug Control Service, Viktor Ivanov, said on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Afghan Minister for Narcotics Control Zarar Ahmad Moqbel Usmani admitted that his country is unable to tackle the problem of illegal drug trafficking alone. He expressed hope that Kabul "can count on regional and international assistance."
It was Usmani who proposed increasing the Russian anti-drug task force in Afghanistan, Ivanov said. "Moqbel [Usmani] proposed increasing the number of our officers in the analytical and information departments," Ivanov said, without defining the specific number of Russians to be sent to Afghanistan.
"We of course do not have plans to deploy troops to Afghanistan," Ivanov said.
