Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency has included ex-President Pervez Musharraf in the list of suspects in the 2007 murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The testimony against Musharraf was given by Saud Aziz, a former police chief of Rawalpindi, the city where Bhutto was assassinated. Aziz was arrested last year along with his former deputy Khurram Shahzad for failing to ensure the ex-premier's security.

The former city police chief claimed Musharraf ordered him to change Benazir's security detail and have the murder scene cleaned up immediately after the crime, DawnNews said.

Bhutto was assassinated in December 2007 during a campaign rally in the city of Rawalpindi. The opposition leader was shot before a suicide bomber exploded his device, killing dozens of other people.

A report by a UN commission in April blamed Pakistan's authorities for failing to take measures to protect Bhutto and conduct a thorough investigation into her murder.

In October last year, the Federal Investigation Agency completed the murder probe and held an Islamist militant group, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, responsible for the assassination.

The investigators also blamed police negligence for the murder.

Benazir Bhutto, 54 had twice been the country's prime minister and was about to run in parliamentary elections as leader of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) when she was killed. Her assassination sparked violence around the country.

Pakistan's beleaguered President Musharraf resigned in August 2008 under the threat of impeachment from the coalition government.
