At least 25 people were killed and some 250 injured after an earthquake hit Yingjiang County in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.
The earthquake, measured at 5.8 magnitude, leveled houses of 1,039 families and left 4,994 seriously damaged near the border with Myanmar, the agency said citing data from the provincial civil affairs department.
The Civil Affairs Ministry and the National Committee of Disaster Reduction have dispatched to the quake-hit region 9,700 tents, 15,000 blankets, 15,000 clothes and other necessities, the agency added.
China's most powerful earthquake in 30 years occurred on May 12, 2008, in Sichuan, killing at least 70,000 people and displacing 10 million. Direct economic losses from the quake have exceeded $150 billion.
