Officials in Tokyo have warned parents of young children not to give them tap water due to increased levels of radiation, national media said on Wednesday.
Levels of radioactive iodine-131 in certain areas of Tokyo is 210 becquerels per litre. This is over double the safe level for infants.
Officials say however the water poses no immediate health risk to adults.
New restrictions on food from areas hit by radiation leaks from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant have also been imposed.
Japan now says over 9,000 people died in the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit the country earlier this month. But officials say the final death toll is likely to top 20,000.
