A rescuer who was clearing rubble at the site of Japan's nuclear power plant that was badly damaged by the March 11 earthquake died Saturday, Kyodo News said quoting the plant operator.
The TEPCO company operating the Fukushima nuclear plant said the 60-year-old man had started work early in the morning and almost an hour later felt unwell and was taken to hospital where he fainted and then died three hours later.
Doctors did not find any injuries on his body.
The earthquake and a tsunami that swept northeastern Japan two months ago damaged the cooling system at Fukushima, which resulted in serious meltdown. In mid-April, Japan's nuclear authorities assigned the highest level of danger to the Fukushima nuclear disaster for the first time after the devastating Chernobyl nuclear accident in the Soviet Union in 1986.
