North Korean leader Kim Jong-il arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a summit with Chinese President Hu Jintao, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.
Kim's "secret" armored train was spotted in the capital, and a motorcade later sped down central Beijing's Chang'an Avenue.
Kim was there "apparently for a summit meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao," Yonhap said. Neither China nor North Korea has confirmed the visit, which would be Kim's third to his closest ally in just over a year.
Kim is said to be looking for Chinese support for his youngest son, Kim Jong-un, who is widely believed to be the heir apparent after his father leaves office in the future.
Analysts say Kim also wants to solicit Beijing's help in tackling severe food shortages the communist state has been facing this year.
