Rival Palestinian movements Fatah and Hamas have agreed to hold a meeting to discuss how a reconciliation deal between them is being implemented, a senior Fatah member said on Thursday.
Chief Fatah negotiator Azzam al-Ahmad did not specify the date of the meeting, saying only that the talks will be held after Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas returns from Paris, where he is expected to arrive on Friday for talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
He said the meeting was approved by Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal.
Hamas and Fatah signed a reconciliation agreement on May 4 in Cairo, ending a four-year split that began when Hamas ousted Fatah forces from the Gaza Strip in 2007. Since then, Hamas has controlled Gaza, limiting Fatah's authority to the West Bank.
The sides have agreed to hold elections and form a national unity government. However, Hamas has repeatedly accused Abbas of violating the deal and impeding reconciliation by demanding that the prime minister of his government retain his post after elections.
