Several people were killed and about 35 injured in a 27-vehicle pile-up on a British motorway, local media reported, quoting police.
The crash occurred on the motorway near Taunton, in south-west England, late on Friday. Television pictures showed chaotic scenes with cars and trucks ablaze and people desperately trying to rescue passengers trapped in the wreckage of their vehicles.
A police official was quoted by media reports as saying that "several people" had lost their lives in the crash, described by some witnesses as “horific.”
A long stretch of the motorway has been closed and will only reopen in 24 hours, the reports said.
