Bahrain Air is in talks with Russia on the purchase of up to five Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ) regional passenger aircraft, the company official said on Thursday.

“We are considering the purchase of planes with capacity of 100-130 passengers,” the airline’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Nuttall said, adding that the company will choose between the SSJ and Canadian Bombardier.

The airline will make the final decision in the Q1 of 2012 and is expecting delivery in 2014-2015, Nutall said.

Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) officials have confirmed preliminary talks with Bahrain’s second flag carrier on the SSJ purchase.

Superjet 100 is a family of medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by Sukhoi in cooperation with U.S. and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.

The aircraft is capable of carrying up to 100 passengers for up to 4,500 kilometers.

Sukhoi has received over 200 firm orders for Superjet 100 airliners so far. There are currently five Superjet 100s in service with Armavia and Aeroflot.

Is Bahrain trying to buy the Russians? We all know that in a conflict with Iran, Bahrain needs the support of Russia to force through resolution at the U.N. Further, the leaders of Bahrain are between a rock and a hard place for it's only a matter of time before the Shia rule that country so essentially the Sunnis are fighting for survival. Russia need not allow itself to be bought off because a prolonged war in the gulf will reward Russia with a windfall via sales of oil and gas to Europe. In short, Russia will get more money for less of its supplies (a saving also on it resources). The longer Iran can stay in a war with the U.S. the better it will be for Russia and China. Nothing helps Russia more than to have the U.S. and its aliies mired in another 10 year conflict.

Of course Bahrein is trying to get to get Russia to change its policy,Expect more of these affairs from all these states who want Russia to change its policies on Syria and Iran.

Quatar in fact is an active enemy of Russia, It tries to sabotage the activities of Gazprom in places like Greece and elsewhere where it deliberately is trying to influence the Greek

      politicians.

War in Iran is not in the interest of Russia. If a hostile regime comes to Tehran you can expect another set of american missile bases pointing at the underbelly of Russia.
