Iran’s parliament summoned on Tuesday President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to answer questions about his alleged mismanagement of the country’s economy, Iranian media reported.
The summons - the first of its kind for an Iranian leader - come ahead of next month’s parliamentary elections.
Mohammad Reza Bahnoar, the Majlis’ deputy speaker, said the president must appear before lawmakers within one month.
Ahmadinejad will be queried on his economic record, including an improper implementation of an aid package, and his administration’s domestic and foreign policy, the Fars news agency said.
Lawmakers will also question him over his attempts to curb the powers of the Majlis.
