Egypt is planning to hand over to Libya government loyalists who fled to Egypt after rebels toppled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Egyptian media reported on Friday.

According to the media reports, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr has called for an urgent ministerial meeting “to prepare a response to the new Libyan authorities’ demands to hand over Egypt-based former Gaddafi loyalists.”

Egyptian prosecutors also asked Tripoli to specify the names of those who need to be extradited.

After Gaddafi’s regime was toppled in 2011 and he himself was killed in October by National Transitional Council fighters, a number of his supporters fled to neighboring Arab and African countries, including Niger, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt.

Jordan is ready to provide asylum to Muammar Gaddafi’s only daughter, Aisha, on humanitarian grounds, the All Jordan internet portal reported on Friday.

The Jordanian authorities would be prepared to do that on certain conditions: If Aisha is not put on a wanted list for war crimes and if the new Libyan authorities do not demand her extradition for prosecution.

All of them were granted refuge on humanitarian grounds on condition they not engage in political activity.

Among the ex-members of Gaddafi’s team whom Tripoli wants extradited from Egypt are Gaddafi’s cousin Ahmed Gaddaf al-Dam, who was responsible for Egyptian-Libyan relations, an ex-Foreign Minister Ali Abdussalam Treki, the former chiefs of Libyan state-run media, intelligence heads and several top diplomats.

The head of Libyan power authority, National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, urged in late February that the countries sheltering what he called "enemies of the Libyan people" hand them over to Tripoli, prompting to cut relations with these countries if they fail to cooperate with Libya.

At that time, Egypt had refused, saying the Gaddafi loyalists were legally residing in Egypt.
