Russia plans to hold an international swim across the Bering Strait between Russia’s Chukotka and Alaska in the U.S. in 2013, Russian Duma deputy aide Oleg Dokuchayev said on Friday.
The 86-km swim was originally scheduled for last summer but failed to materialize.
“We have not abandoned the idea,” he said.
It was previously reported that 15 swimmers from Russia and 15 swimmers from other (unidentified) countries were preparing to cross the strait last year.
The water temperature during the summer season is between four and eight degrees Celsius.
