China is demanding a thorough investigation into the heavy shelling of the Syrian town of Houla on Friday, which has killed more than 100 people, including 49 children, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said on Monday.

“We’re demanding an investigation into this incident. We are calling on all sides in Syria to fully implement all the relevant UN resolutions as well as the Annan plan,” he added.

China is also urging all parties to the Syrian conflict to end violence.

The United Nations Security Council, on Sunday, condemned the Houla shelling as "an outrageous use of force" against civilians, saying it violated international law, and Syria’s obligations to cease violence.

The statement called on the Syrian regime to “immediately” withdraw heavy weapons and troops from residential areas, reiterating that “all violence in all its forms by all parties must cease.”

The Syrian government has denied involvement in the massacre, after the Syrian opposition blamed it on troops loyal to embattled President, Bashar al-Assad. They said regime forces had fired mortar shells into the area following large anti-government demonstrations on Friday, and then stormed the villages, gunning down men and stabbing women and children in their homes.
