MOSCOW, April 15 (RIA Novosti) - Bomb and gun attacks have left at least 19 people dead in Somali capital Mogadishu, media reported.

A total of 16 people, including nine assailants, are thought to have been killed after gunmen attacked the city's key court buildings. A car bomb later killed three people, including one attacker, as it went off on the road to the airport, the BBC reported.

Islamist militant group al-Shabab, linked to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attacks. Al-Shabab has been blamed for a number of attacks in Mogadishu in the past two years.

According to the Somali government, nine gunmen were involved in the assault, and all of them were killed. The British broadcaster quoted the government as saying that six assailants had detonated suicide vests.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud condemned the attacks.
