DUSHANBE, May 27 (RIA Novosti) – Tajikistan unblocked access to YouTube on Monday, just days after a ban was placed on the popular video-sharing website for the third time in less than a year, a representative of the country’s internet industry said.
“Access was closed on the orders of the head of the Communications Service,” Asomiddin Atoyev, who heads the association of the country’s internet service providers, told RIA Novosti.
The ban may be a backlash over a video report of the wedding of President Emomali Rakhmon’s son Rustam, the BBC's Russian Service said. The video featured an apparently inebriated Rakhmon Sr. singing and dancing.
The wedding took place in 2007, but the video only appeared online on May 18.
YouTube was blocked in Tajikistan for more than two months between July and October last year and again for two weeks from March to April.
