MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti) - Atomstroyexport has put the second power unit of the Tianwan nuclear power plant (NPP) in China into commercial operation, the head of the nuclear equipment export monopoly said Wednesday.
The company is building the Tianwan NPP in eastern China's port city of Lianyungang under a 1992 agreement. The plant features improved VVER-1000 reactors and K-100-6/3000 turbo generators.
"An hour and a half ago we officially put into commercial operation the second power unit of the NPP in China," Sergei Shmatko said.
Sergei Novikov, press secretary of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Power said a protocol on preliminary acceptance and two-year guaranteed service was signed Wednesday.
"The event signals the fulfillment of Atomstroyexport's contract commitments for the first stage of construction on the Chinese NPP," Novikov said, adding that both power units were stably working at 100% capacity.
The first reactor was completely commissioned in early June, and talks are being held on new contracts for the plant.
The Nuclear Power Agency said in June that Russia and China were discussing potential projects to build fast neutron reactors, a uranium enrichment plant, and projects to introduce new technologies into the process of nuclear fuel management.
